When someone says to you "Your Plagerising!" and you don't know what the heck they're saying~! What do they mean?! Well before you get yourself in huge trouble, here are some definitions and examples. Bob will be our example guy where people can understand what claiming is but DO NOT follow Bob's way because it IS WRONG and illegal. All definition are in Alphabetical order.

Do you have more terms someone keeps repeating over and over again and you have no heck what they are saying? Thank feel free to email me at ayumi@clynefaction.net with the "Clyne Faction's Definition" as your subject/title of your email so that I know it's not junk mail.

Basically when people take other people's work without crediting. The worst ones are when people tend to say that this work belongs to them when someone elses to it. For example, taking someone elses wallpaper, scratching out the name and inserting their own and saying they made it are called CLAIMING. Don't ever do it because it's disrespectful and it makes you look bad!

Example: Bob was surfing the net and found a great looking Lacus wallpaper from Clyne Faction. He decides to uses it and post it on his site. Since Bob doeesn't know how to make graphics he decides to take the name out using Paint program and puts his name on instead. Bob just claimed someone else's work. What he should of done is keep the wallpaper on his computer and NEVER upload it or say he made it because being a liar just makes you look bad.

You are linking back to the original creator, scanner or founder of the work, image and information that you are using in your site or whatever. This tells everyone that you DID NOT make this or own it in any way or form and all rights are reserved to original creator, scanner or founder for their efforts. Basically, "Sourcing your stuff"/"Source Sited"/"Reference List" which you should of learned during school. This is an important skill to know and must do as well!

Example:
The News - "The moment is an image of her at the beach..."
The Credit - Clyne Faction

It's when another person links an image, music, etc. from another site without uploading to yheir server to begin with is consider disrespectful, rude and stealing. Many webmasters/mistresses are paying $100+ per year so they can provide you FREE fansites. By Linking from another site you are taking their bandwidth away which causes the site to shut down. Think of it as stealing money in an internet way. It's just simple: Don't do it!

Better information here: "Clueless? Don't Direct Linking Information!"

Example: Bob came across a Fanlisting and decides that he doesn't want to upload to his site since it was too much work, he links the picture/code from the site onto his site. Bob just direct-linked! What Bob should of done is upload the picture/code to his site because leeching other people's bandwidth can cause the site to go down.

From Dictionary.com:

"1. To use and pass off (the ideas or writings of another) as one's own.
2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another)."

Basically, Don't copy and paste from other sites or works! Re-writing it in your own words or quote it. Sometimes quoting is good (with linkback to source) because you might not know how to re-word it without changing the meaning to it. Never Plagiarize no matter what! Real and online life!

Example: Bob came across Clyne Faction and sees great information/news and decides he wants to put it up on the site or in his works (graphics, msn, signatures, etc.). He copies and pastes the sentence/paragraph. Bob just Plagerised! This is illegal and can get into lawsuit (I'm being serious because personally I will do that if it happens). Do not take more than three words and re-word everything and credit.

When you take something from a site without permission and re-posting or distributing it. This includes: works, images, html (when people type if up raw), words and artworks. Works also includes anything that someone put time and effort into making even if it's a small thing like avatars to something as big as a personal manga. Don't even think about it.

Example: Bob was surfing on the net and sees a wonderful site and an image caught his eye. He decides to right-click and "save image as" so he can upload to his site later or use it for his work. Guess what? Bob just stole! Taking something (either in real life or online) without the author's/artist's permission or notice is STEALING and is illegal. Consquences will occur but different depending on the webmaster/mistress.

Thanks to Anime News Network for putting up this law/guide. Here they are: "Reproduction Permissions"

Good to know when your a webmaster/mistress.

Example 1: Alex wanted to use an information from Bob site and by re-wording and link-back credting, Alex has now put up news on his main page of his site. Now Bob, found out and got into a frenzy with Alex and told him that it's illegal and stealing his news is bad and demands that Alex never takes his news again. Bob just broke the "Fair Use" Guide of the Berne Convention! Alex did all that was needed under the "Fair Use" but Bob, by demanding permission, became "ill-formed".

Example 2: Bob was using news from a news site but never linked back to it. Bob just broke the "Fair Use" Guide! Link back and crediting is a MUST~! Other wise it's breaking the "Fair Use" guide.
