Let first say that this is a per person's opnion. I'm writing this from what my teachers have taught me and from experiences. I think other webmasters should consider some of these questions and tips when making a site. This is a guideline after all.

Telling the Good sites from the Bad
  • Good websites (depending on what it is) will contain indepth info and high quality graphics. Bad websites just smacks on images and uses wallpapers (which you shouldn't bu using in the first place) as layouts.
  • Layouts are Layouts and Wallpapers are not layouts. Good sites will have easy navigations and good color schemes on their site. Bad sites doesn't consider color clashes and just ends up smacking stuff together.
  • Good sites don't put music on their site as background music. And if they do, they're should be an off button. This can be annoying to some visitors because they may already be listening to their own or course there are exceptiions. Bad sites just put music on their site which drains their bandwidth and it takes forever to load.
  • Good sites are serious about their works and are truly dedicated in what they are doing. Bad sites steals images, plagerises and rips them from other's sites and claims them.
  • Good sites make sures their site is not breaking and "fair use" policy. This means credits are given and linking back news on their main page.
  • Good sites have disclaimers while bad sites don't. Without a disclaimer that means you are claiming the anime, manga, game, actor, etc. and can get into serious trouble with the companies if found.
  • Good sites NEVER uses templates or pre-made layouts (unless its a gift or contest winner) because they put effort in what they like to do. Bad sites usually do and it's even worse when people claim them.
  • Good sites have original content (and therefore content and work are copyrighted to them) and does not steal from others. Bad sites ends up stealing from (usually) the popular site because they are lazy to try new things (Which is what webdesgning is about).

Questions you should ask yourself
  • What kind of informations and graphics will I place in my shrine? From there, what kind of layout should be used inorder to fit all these information yet easy for visitors to navigate?
  • Can I be original? And what should I do that makes everyone see my sites as mine and not just a site? (This is important because people recently lack the skill of creativity and you want your site to stand out).
  • Will I have time and be able to work on my site dispite of school and other problems? (If you do have not time to care about your site than you shouldn't really be making one to begin with).
  • Will I push myself to my limits? This is an important question to ask yourself. Fame isn't always about getting hits. Fame is known for what you do and what you learn from your site. What can you do? What are you able to do? Can you grow beyond your current limit? Exceed your expectations? This is what I believe is the key goal of Site making.
  • Law/Rules is important so ask yourself - will I be able to make a site that won't upset others? Can I respect others for their work and be inspire from it? Never steal. Your ideals are yours alone so make it bloom into a form of art.
  • If I get a domain, will I be able to maintain it? If you plan to continue webdesign without a limit, domains are the way to go but can you finacial support it? Expect a few exceeding bandwidth problems.
  • If someone stole my stuff, will I be able to keep cool and ask politely for the item to be removed? Keep your cool at all times.
  • Who are my audience? This is extremely important! There are a WIDE range of age surfing the net. What kinds of visitor are you trying to attract? What kind of content will you have (PG? T? M? R?)? What range of age group are you expecting to come to your site? If your site is going to attract children (12 - 16 years of age) than please dont' contain nudity or hentai stuff.
  • Do I know my stuff? This means do you know your html? Using tutorials sites are fine but NEVER use html in other's sites (it's stealing). Can you write your own HTML? Most popular webmasters/mistress can write their own and because they can it's easy to identitfy who stole and who didn't. It's best to stay away from viewing a site's html.
  • Do I have the patients to learn? Webdesigning/website making doesn't take a few days or weeks or months, it takes YEARS to become "average" and if your lucky "professional" but usually people take a few years just to get to standard webmaking (like this site for example). So please be patient.

Please try to keep in mind of these things. Skills are meant to improve and learned from webdesigning/making. This is both fun, educational and improves yourself (like skills and character). We share our things because we love making them, we love fans who love what we do and we love what we can learn! Remember that phrases, the tips from above and the questions from above and your on your way to become a great webdesigner~! ^^
